We’re excited to invite you to “Effloresce: a Beyond BASE Gathering” on October 17-18!

This two-day gathering in partnership with Cultural Space Agency, People’s Economy Lab, and Communities of Opportunity will bring together community leaders, cultural organizers, and creatives for an immersive experience of learning, collaboration, and connection.

Expect engaging breakout sessions on community ownership, healing spaces, and cultural real estate development. Enjoy a community dinner, interactive art, and networking opportunities, as well as unique sessions like our timeline mapping activity and a sound bath to close the event.

SEE YOU THERE!

The Cultural Space Agency is propelled by a diverse group of specialists and community stakeholders, collectively known as The Constituency. This group, consisting of architects, property developers, community organizers, artists, philanthropists, elected officials, commercial lenders, attorneys, academics, and nonprofit directors, has been instrumental in guiding the development of cultural spaces. Constituency members are graduates of the Build Art Space Equitably (BASE) program, a certification program that explores a curriculum centered on the intersection of commercial real estate, community development, and the arts.

With increasing demands for arts and culture spaces, there's a pressing need for the expertise The Constituency offers…

To bridge this gap, the CSA has created Beyond BASE: a new initiative supported by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and the City of Seattle. This program pairs the seasoned wisdom of The Constituency with the vibrant energy of community-based cultural organizations embarking on their first significant cultural space projects. This program will be piloted for the next three years pairing Advisors from the Constituency with community partners for capacity building towards their cultural real estate goals.

HOW IT WORKS

CSA hopes to on-board 3-5 projects into the Beyond B.A.S.E. program every 6-months beginning in June 2024 (subsequently in January 2025, June 2025. etc.). CSA will conduct a needs assessment and proposal of support with Program Partners. Staff will then match Advisors with Program Partners based on unique needs and expertise.

For Program Partners, proposals could range from 100-200 hours of consulting time over a 6-month period between one or several Advisors.

For Advisors, proposals could range from 10-50 hours of consulting time over a 6-month period. Partners may also choose to work in shorter periods with one Advisor at a time. Each project will have a single CSA staff member point of contact who is continually available as a resource.

This process looks like…

about advisors

  • Joining the advisor pool means you're open to be contacted about potential work. You will have the opportunity to accept, deny, or modify any proposed pairing. This will typically occur each 6 months, with some anticipated need outside of the regular schedule.

  • CSA seeks to support our advisor pool in this journey and work. Each advisor will have a pool of 1:1 coaching hours they may utilize from a menu of coaches who have decades of consulting experience. Advisors will be compensated for coaching hours at the training/coaching rate listed below.

Additionally, CSA will arrange training sessions on desired areas of interest/need and serve as a cohort space where challenges can be talked through in community. The trainings will be a mix of in-person and virtual.

All of this support is optional. Support hours are compensated at the training/coaching rate listed below. Food will be provided for in-person training sessions.

    Compensation

Advisors will be paid as independent contractors and sign an MOU with the Cultural Space Agency. Advisors will invoice CSA monthly with relevant deliverables.

    • Consulting rate: $150/hr

    • Training/Coaching rate: $50/hr

about partners

  • Each program partner will sign an MOU outlining the capacity building support and deliverables, such as a kick off meeting, mid point meeting, close out meeting, and a short evaluation. Partners will have the opportunity to help shape these packages to meet their unique needs. Each MOU will be for a length of 6 months, with the option to create a new 6 month MOU if continued support is needed. Meetings with assigned advisors will be scheduled and agreed upon between program partners and advisors.

  • Financial support from the CSA to all Beyond BASE Program Partners looks like...

    • flat rate capacity building sum to pay for staff time to participate in this program (varies depending on needs and scope of each organization)

    • CSA will directly pay for advisor time agreed upon in the scope package

    • there will be an additional pool of money to support fees and costs for projects in the first two years of Beyond BASE, such as feasibility studies, permits, and environmental surveys. These funds will be used to directly contract these services for partner organizations on a case by case basis.
